It's time for our annual summer camp!

Now, due to a lightening storm, our usual spot near Beaver, Utah is currently on fire. It is not burning out of control, but the road is closed off and they're letting nature take its course.

So...we will have Camp this year at our previous location (2000-2003) on the face of Mount Timpanogos. It is not far from Orem, Utah you can CLICK HERE to see a map on Google Maps. You can print it out that way.

Rough directions are:
Go up American Fork Canyon and take the right fork (NOT toward Tibble Fork), up the back of Timp. Look for the signs that lead to the Timpooneke Campground. When you get there, you will see a parking lot, bathrooms, etc. You're on the right track.

Then, keep going on the road until a few hundred yards later it turns into a dirt road. Do NOT turn off this main dirt road. Don't take any forks until you get to the camp site. It is a rough 5 miles so it may take you 40 mins. to 1 hr. or so, depending on what and how you're driving.

The spot is certainly car accessible, IF you don't have a very nice and shiny car AND you know how to drive off road. Also, if you car is loaded down with people and gear, it will be much worse. So, a car will make it, if you're careful, but it may pay to make arrangements to car pool or borrow a truck. And check the condition of the spare tire before you come up.

Also, due to the higher elevation (8600 feet above sea level), the earlier you can come, the more time  you'll have to acclimate. Also, you'll need more water than normal due to the atmospheric difference and how that makes one prone to dehydration. And also, sunscreen is highly recommended...a hat, almost required as are sunglasses. You're all grown ups, though.

Oh, another thing, nights are a little more cool than they were in our spot near Beaver. Come prepared.
